{hidden talent}

I have done it friends.

I have done the impossible.

You've all heard of sleep walking, and maybe some of you have even done it. While I can't claim that feat, I most certainly accomplished a different sleep + {insert mystery talent here} combo two nights ago.

Let me preface this by saying that I love sleeping. Like realllly looooove sleeping. And I can fall asleep pretty much almost anywhere.

In the car. On the couch. At my desk {shhhh...}.

So two nights ago I had left Landon's room after singing him a few bedtime songs, and headed to Ben's room to do the same. We have our bedtime song routine...Ben likes "You are my sunshine" followed by a little ditty I made up myself. Wanna hear it? Well...no video, but I will share the lyrics...complete with appropriate emphasis..

I love you Be-e-nnneeee
Oh yes I do-oooo
I love you Be-e-nnneeee
Oh I love you-oooo
When you're not with meeee
I'm bluuuuue
I love you Be-e-nnneeee
Oh yes I do-oooo

Of course I insert Landon for Benny when appropriate, which if you keep reading, is where I get myself into trouble.

So back to my story.

I was singing my little song to Ben and then it happened.

I fell asleep.

And I kept singing.

I know these two things to be true because...

1. I actually started dreaming.
2. I woke up and was singing "Landon" instead of "Benny" and my poor Ben was looking at me like "What the hell Mom?!"

Poor little dude. I apologized over and over again and kissed his little forehead and started the song over, making sure to keep my eyes open, and more importantly, use his name.

So do you think I should try out for America's Got Talent? Or is this some super mom power that I've acquired?

Tell me...what is the craziest thing you've done while sleeping?

{saturday morning}

Just me and my boys. Love getting to spend some one on one two time with them.

We went to our local coffee shop and got muffins as big as their heads...

Landon finished his!

and took a trip to the park...

A perfect way to start the weekend.

{thursday randoms}

 Ready for a little Thursday randomness?

1. I'm part of a fun giveaway over on my friend Allison's blog, Crafted Love.

So head on over and you could win a bunch of goodies including a pair of my flower hair pins!

2. A week from today we are taking the boys on our very first little family vacation, which means our first since before they were born! I know...they are three...don't judge until you've had twins. :)

The hubby's aunt and uncle live in a suburb of Chicago so we're heading up there to spend Labor Day weekend. We are super excited to get out of town, but nervous about the boys' first overnight sleeping adventure. If you have suggestions to make the drive/sleeping easier I would love to hear them! Prayers are also of course appreciated. ;)

3. I snapped this photo of our cat Melvin in our yard the other night...

Isn't he a cutie? Such a sweet face.

4. I was reminded this morning of a particular scripture...

painting available here
It seems that just when money is getting tighter and payday is still too many days away, a little bit of money makes it's way to us through my Etsy shop or in other ways. That happened to us today and I'm so very grateful.

5. My Benny...

Looking so grown up. Gah can time just stop for a little bit?

What are your random thoughts for the day?

{playing dress up}

So hard to believe it is Wednesday again! Time to share what I've been wearing the past week for What I Wore Wednesday. If you aren't familiar with WIWW, head on over to Lindsey's blog, The Pleated Poppy, and you can find out more about it.

Thursday I wore my new rosette necklace...I was so excited to wear it that I made sure to plan my outfit around it. Don't tell me you have never done this. ;)

Ruffled top: Maurices
Gray open cardigan: Kohl's
Capris: Kohl's
Rosette Necklace: Sarie June
Sandals: Dillards

Friday...

Did a little something different with my hair...nothing groundbreaking...just a little twist and a barrette. What do you think?

Dress: Maurices
Cardigan: Target
Sandals: Kohl's

Monday's outfit includes another belt! I found this lovely black number at Kohl's over the weekend for $2.40. Yep...$2.40! I love the detail on it. To be honest, I ended up taking it off about 3/4 through the work day though...I felt like I was wearing a corset. And I actually snapped these photos before I left for work in the morning so you get a much more attractive backdrop. :)

Dress: Kohl's
Open cardigan: Target
Belt: Kohl's
Flower pin; Kohl's
Flats: Maurices

Tuesday...

Top: JC Penney
Open cardigan: Dillards
Skirt: Sears
Sandals: Target
Necklace: Kohl's

Today...

Dress: Target
Shrug: Maurices
Sandals: Target
Earrings: Dillards

So that's it for my week! Did a little more branching out with an oh so trendy rosette necklace, another belt and a new hairstyle. What will I come up with next? I like to live on the edge. ;)

{DIY t-shirt scarf}

I did it friends. Yesterday I actually took a project that I had pinned and made it!

On Friday's love list I shared my slight obsessions with t-shirt related crafts. I decided yesterday that I was going to give the t-shirt scarf a try with a cute but unworn Old Navy tee that had been buried in my dresser for far too long.

Old Navy t-shirt with sleeves that cut off my circulation...

Get ready to meet my scissors.

{Here is the tutorial I used to create this super simple scarf.}

I started out by laying the t-shirt flat on the floor. Then I cut off the bottom hem. I marked off 1 inch increments and made starter cuts along the side of the shirt. It helped that I was using a striped shirt - instant cutting lines!

Once I was done cutting the shirt into strips I had 12 {or so} to work with.

I stretched them all out and then gathered them all with the seam in the same place. {this project works the best with a t-shirt that has no side seams, but you work with what you got.}

Then I cut off one of the sleeve cuffs and used that to hide the seams.

I rolled it around and secured it with fabric glue.

And voila!

I love how you can still see the stripes. It turned out just as I had imagined...

{Minus the other pesky seams...grrrr}

I would have covered both seams but since some of the loops were longer than others, they didn't match up on the other side. But they can be easily hidden for a smoother look once you put it on and wrap it around your neck twice like so...

What do you think? Not bad for a free project that used an ill fitting shirt, fabric scissors, a dab of glue, and about 30 minutes of my time!

And while I was at it I thought...hey...those sleeves would probably make cute bracelets!

So I used the same steps on the sleeve...

And ended up with this...

I think the bracelet would be super cute dressed up with a felt flower or some beads. You could also cut one end of the loops open and braid them like in this tutorial. Add that to my list of future projects.

Did you DIY anything over the weekend? I would love to hear about it!
