I'm so excited to be participating in my first handmade market with This Girl's Doodles! 

Tomorrow night from 6-9 I'll be set up at my favorite local coffee shop, Roscoe's, with lots of other local artists. You can check out more information on our Facebook page.

{deck the halls}

Hello friends! Happy December!

Have you been decorating for the holidays? I made the final touches to our Christmas decorating over the Thanksgiving weekend and I love how simple and cozy everything looks this year. Want a peek?

If you remember back in the fall I painted my chalkboard gold on a whim, and when I went to decorate for Christmas I had a DOH! moment, like how am I going to make this color work? Then I pulled out this yarn wreath I made a few years ago,and low and behold, it had gold flowers to tie everything together. Crisis averted. I'm really in love with this whole vignette. The santa sleigh is a piece from my Dad's childhood so it is really special, and I snagged the vintage chalkboard at a yard sale this past summer. 

I painted this new-to-me globe with chalkboard paint and I think it is my new favorite accessory...it will be so versatile! And such a simple project. 

Our mantel is always a struggle for me because it is super shallow, but this year it came together easily with my tree collection and a few cute houses mixed in. 

My mother-in-law made the boys' stockings {the ones on the ends} and they are one of my most treasured decorations. And that new sign from TJ Maxx is fun...and a bit over-confident, right? 

And finally, I wanted some sort of holiday sign to put on the shelf over our desk, so I whipped up this little number Sunday morning while the boys and I all painted. I love how it turned out! And Ben figured out what it meant right away...such a smart little guy. 

Speaking of my boys...I walked into the family room one morning and the boys had recreated the birth of Jesus with the Christmas decorations, complete with a Jeep for the wise men. SO darn funny and cute! Not to mention practical...

{breathing room}

It sure does feel like we're being rushed through life these days, doesn't it?

Sure, there are some days when it can't be avoided, like getting the boys out the door late to school when their gloves were MIA, or dashing out to the store because we just used the last drops of milk.

But lately I've been making a focused effort, when at all possible, to give myself breathing room.

That's why this happened over the weekend...

Yep...we put up the Christmas tree. 

We have a new tree this year which is exciting because it has pre-lit lights that actually work {the lights on our old tree died a few years back}, and all you have to do is plug the three parts together and voila! A lit tree! 

And the best part...my hubby was so excited about it that HE actually put it up. I can't remember the last time that happened. :) 

I don't want this December to be full of hurried and frustrated decorating, which I know happens when I feel like my time is limited.

I want the last month of the year to be relaxed and full of hot chocolate, Christmas movies, snuggling on the couch, gift wrapping and noticing all of the blessings we're surrounded by. 

And man there are a lot of them.

{4 gifts link-up: need}

Happy Thursday friends!

Today is the second week of our 4 gifts link-up, and this week we're focusing on things we need. I know, this sounds kind of boring, but "needs" can actually be fun too!

I've put together some needs for everyone in our family, and hopefully it will give you some ideas for yours! 

First up, my boys... 

slippers // hat & gloves // LeapPad case // art portfolio

Now that the weather has gotten much colder, they need some gear to keep their feet, hands and head warm. I love these grown up style slippers, and the hat set is in Landon's current favorite "color", camo. They both have tablets, but no case for them, so we really should get something to protect them on car trips. And finally, this art portfolio is a great idea to wrangle the art projects they make on a daily basis.

And now for my husband... 

electric blanket // coffee grinder // pepper mill // leather satchel

He has been having a horrible time sleeping, and said that having a super warm blanket helps, so an electric blanket would certainly improve his sleeping situation. A nice coffee grinder and pepper mill have been on his list for quite awhile now, and those are kind of kitchen "needs". And finally he could really use a bag for his laptop and this leather number is nice and manly. 

And finally a few needs for me...

curling iron // hair dryer // knee socks // laundry sorter

I honestly can't remember when I bought my current curling iron. But let's say I definitely had it pre-motherhood, and it is looking a tad worn. And while I'm at it, my hair dryer is looking pretty shabby as well. And now that I'm wearing my tall boots almost daily I could use some new knee socks. This last one is really for the whole family, but we desperately need a new laundry sorter. Ours is ripped and too small for our growing laundry mounds now that the boys' clothes are much bigger, so on the list it goes!
