{love list}

With my birthday approaching in a few weeks, I've been making a mental love list of all of the pretty things I wouldn't mind calling my own. So in honor of the day this girl was born,  here are a few of my birthday love list items...

1. This amazingly adorable skirt...

I'm literally swooning over it. Too much. Elsie is wearing it here...makes me love it even more!

2. This super cute vintage top...

Perfect for a picnic in the park, right?

My necks needs this.

Because you know I love squirrels

5.  This guy's new CD comes out just in time for when I turn the big 3-3...

His music always makes my heart happy.

What are you loving this week?

{playing dress up}

 Happy What I Wore Wednesday!

If you are new to WIWW, it was started by stay-at-home-mom-bloggers, like Lindsey, who wanted some motivation and inspiration to get dressed up every day. While I'm not a SAHM, I do have to get dressed up for work Monday - Friday, and thought this would help me be a bit more creative with my outfit choices. I'm on a really tight wardrobe budget these days, so WIWW has really helped me to rethink what I already own and pull out things I haven't worn in awhile.

Here are my outfits from the past week...

Top: Maurices
Pants: JC Penney {first time fitting into these since pre-pg!}
Sandals: Target
Earrings: Dillards

Black tank: JC Penney
Top: Dillards
Skirt: Walmart
Sandals: Target

Black shrug: Maurices
Dress {still need a belt!}: Target
Sandals: Target
Earrings: Walmart

Top: JC Penney
Capris: Kohl's
Scarf: Kohl's
Sandals: Kohl's
Earrings: anniversary gift from hubby

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: Sears
Necklace: Walmart
Sandals: Kohl's

Every week I link up with The Pleated Poppy, Momma Go Round and No Model Lady. You can find their links in my link list! Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

{white out}

 The fireplace got a teeny tiny face lift over the weekend. I took the mantle from this...

To this...

Amazing what a few coats of white paint can do! I think the brick wants in on this white action as well. What do you think?

Hope everyone's week is off to a good start!

{Swedish island}

We are now the proud owners of our very own private island.

Sometimes I relax there several times a day. It is really fabulous.

It is actually a Swedish island...no sand or palm trees. But it is a great spot to prep our dinner or sit and enjoy a snack...

I'm sure you figured this out by now, but our little Swedish island came from IKEA. It was a super simple and affordable DIY project that the hubby thought up and put together for us last week.

It consists of a premade desk top and two white trestle bases, both of which can be found in IKEA's home office section.

It is the perfect spot for the hubby's Paula Deen cutting board, our most used utensils, a cute white IKEA pot with the boys' little forks and spoons, and a few glass bottles waiting to house some spices.

The trestles are adjustable, so down the road when we can afford a kitchen remodel and add a built-in island, we can re-purpose it as a desk {or craft table...I have ulterior motives of course.}

The stools are also from IKEA, and we are very happy so far with the quality and comfort. The boys can even climb up onto them without much trouble. Ben loves to sit here and eat his snacks.

The most exciting thing, other than the great look and function of the island, is the cost! The island components came in at a total of $100, and the stools were $30 each. So for $!60, we gained a lot more counter space and a place to sit and enjoy breakfast or a snack.

And now I really, really need to do something with those kitchen cabinets. And the backsplash. But I'm stumped on paint colors. Any suggestions?

{love list}

To celebrate the fact that our family is finally starting to get over this nasty cold/flu bug, I thought today would be the perfect time for a little love list! And today's love list is dedicated to my internet bff's who have lots of exciting things going on in their respective hoods. Let's check them out...shall we?

1.My super crafty friend Stephanie's new sewing room...

Amazing, right? So colorful! So organized! Such a perfect space in their new home for her to run her fabulous Etsy shop, Mada's Place. If you haven't heard of her shop and you 1. have children, 2. have friends with children that you like to buy gifts for or 3. go through ziploc baggies like I do...head over there right now!

2. My sweet southern friend Beth is in the middle of repainting lots of the rooms in her gorgeous new home. Even though she is a little apprehensive about the lighter living room I'm really loving this space...

And take a look at her lovely sun room...

Such a calming color, right? Can't wait to see the room all put together Beth!

3. Shannon, who I haven't met IRL but would absolutely LOVE to, recently redecorated her son Gabe's nursery. The before was pretty darn adorable...

But now it is super unique and very fitting for a growing boy...

Wicked awesome my friend! :)

4. And finally my friend Carri has been doing some awesome DIY projects around her house lately. Check out this amazing filing cabinet transformation using spray paint, fabric and mod podge. Here is the plain before...

And the amazing after!

She also created this super cute earring holder...

And this seriously gorgeous wall art...

Love seeing all of your DIY projects Carri! Keep them coming!

So that's just a bit of what my super talented friends have been up to lately. Care to share your projects? I would love to include them in a future love list!

Hope everyone has a fun and relaxing weekend!

{decaf}

Caffeine is not my friend lately, so this poster made me giggle. As long at it is decaf for me, the saying is true. :)

{store envy}

I have a little confession to make.

I'm cheating on my Etsy shop.

To be honest, the fees were becoming a burden, so I opened up a new shop on Storenvy. My Etsy shop will remain open, but most of my new items will be sold exclusively on Storenvy.

So far I love the look of the shop, the ease of listing, and the fact that you can list as many items as you want for FREE. Score! I also love that items can be purchased directly from my love squirrels Facebook page. {are you a fan???}

Simply click on "store" in the left column and it shows you everything I have listed.

I have a few new hats in the shop like this one...

And this one...

And my newest items, Button Bloom Headbands!

 Each bloom is handmade and one of a kind...
I sold them for the first time at our local hospital baby fair, and they were a big hit.

For the next week, if you are a fan of my FB page, or if you mention This Girl's Life at check-out, I will refund your shipping on any purchase from my new shop!

So what are you waiting for? :)
