{finding the beauty}

My stomach has been in knots these past few days.

A friend and coworker lost her husband to a very short and aggressive battle with cancer over the weekend.

They are in their early 40's with a nine-year-old daughter.

And I'm trying to wrap my head around something so horribly sad. The idea of facing such a tremendous and sudden loss.

And then there is Diana's story...losing her newborn son just one short year after saying goodbye to her born to soon twin boys.

I don't know how to make sense of it all.

I've prayed so much this past month for healing. For a baby boy that deserved a chance at life. For a husband and father who still had so much life left to live.

And both were denied. At least of the type of healing I was praying for.

I'm not one who lives in the camp that "God does everything for a reason" or "it was just his/her time." The God I believe in doesn't take a father away from his family or a newborn away from a still grieving mother. I just can't believe that He would do such horrible things.

I do believe, though, that God can make beautiful things come about out of tragedy. Love pours out. Friendships strengthen. Bonds are formed between those sharing similar grief.

Beauty can come from tragedy.

At times like these I'm thankful for this little drawing hobby of mine. It helps to calm my mind and remind me of all of the beauty there is in this world.

Where are you finding beauty today?

{9 years}

Happy Anniversary today
to the guy that still
makes my heart flutter,
puts a smile on my face,
and joy in my heart.

I can't believe it has almost been a decade...what a crazy ride!

{puzzle maniac}

To say that Ben loves puzzles is a bit of an understatement...

He usually puts one together every day...

And one usually leads to two or three or four spread out all over the dining room floor...

I love watching his little mind at work, and am amazed at how quickly he can find the pieces that fit. Love my little puzzle maniac. :)

{quite an adventure}

I don't talk much about our cats on the blog, but for those of you who don't know, we have two furry members of the family. Melvin is our 11 year old orange tabby, and Chloe is a 5 1/2 year old Siamese.

They are indoor cats, but since we moved to this house, we started to let them venture outside a bit. Melvin always stays close to home, but Chloe tends to wander father away.

On Saturday I let her outside around lunch time.

Fast forward to last night when she FINALLY came home!

Oh my goodness that cat about gave me a heart attack. I thought for sure that she had either been taken in by someone else {that is what I had hoped}, was lost somewhere outside or that the worst had happened {we don't need to go there}. I was completely prepared for her to never return, but last night, I opened the front door, and in she ran! And not a hair was out of place.

This was the best picture I could get of her...she was all over the place!

After hugging and squeezing on her for a few minutes I scolded her and asked her where she had been all that time. I sure wish she could tell me. Turns out that one of our neighbors is also missing their Siamese...a male. Before she came home last night I was picturing the two of them out together, like rebellious teenagers, hunting for mice and begging for food at random stranger's houses. I hope that their little guy comes home soon too!

Love that little girl of mine...and I'm glad to not be the only female in the house again!

{8}

The hubby and I celebrated 8 years of marriage yesterday by getting out of town for a bit while the boys hung out with their Nana and Papa.

We crossed the border...

I wore my favorite brown corduroy flats and carried a perfect fall bag...

Had some yummy Mexican food...

I tortured him with a photo...

And we ended the day with yummy coffee drinks from Panera for the ride home.

It was a perfect day...lovely weather just like the day we got married. And just for fun, here we are enjoying the dinner at our wedding reception...

We.were.so.young.and.skinny!
