{Goodwill > Target}

If you know me at all, you are aware of the fact that I'm a bit obsessed with Target and midcentury design.

So when I saw this lamp on our last Target trip I fell in love.

But not with the $65.99 price tag. I refuse to pay that for a Target lamp, or a Target anything for that matter. Target is for clearance deals, the dollar spot, and cheap popcorn.

So the lamp stayed on the shelf.

Fast forward a week, perusing the aisles at my local Goodwill, I spotted this!

Sure it was more than a bit dingy and the shade wasn't the right scale, but otherwise it was perfection.

And $6.99.

So I brought it home, spiffed it up with a fresh coat of white paint, added a shade I already had hanging out in our laundry room, and voila!

I wish the details are more visible in this photo, but you can see them in the before. I'm in love with the texture and pattern on the base, and that wood makes me drool. So good.

Is there anything better than a fantastic thrifted find? I think not.

{a tale of two dressers}

I happen to be a big fan of dressers in entryways. I've wanted one in ours for quite awhile now. A midcentury one to be more specific.

We've had a console table in there for a few years, which looked just fine, but offered zero storage.

And we had an adorable midcentury modern dresser in the boys' room...

A few weeks ago, someone at my work was selling a barely used IKEA dresser for super cheap. So we snagged it up and moved it into the boys' room...

It offers SO much more storage than the midcentury piece.

And speaking of my MCM dresser...

It is now in the entryway where I always wanted it!

I'm so happy with how it works in the space, both aesthetically and functionally.

And I'm also loving some springy decor, considering it has been around 10 degrees here this week!

Do you have a dresser in an unexpected spot in your house?

{family room update}

A few weeks ago I shared with you the awesome vintage chair my mother-in-law found for me at a local consignment shop. It was a great addition to our family room, and created a cozy little sitting/reading nook in what was an empty space before. I had plans to do a gallery wall of sorts above the chair and as usual I didn't stick to my original plan. But I love how it turned out.

Wanna see? :)

I shopped the house for everything...a mix of family photos, a fun green frame, DIY photo canvas and a vintage drying rack. I added a yarn and pinecone garland for a touch of fall...

On the tray, I added two flameless candles, a fun clock from Target and some good fall reading...

I love how the space came together...it is a perfect mix of vintage, comfy and modern...

I am still so giddy over this chair...such an amazing find.

And speaking of amazing finds...if you follow me on FB or Instagram you saw the great midcentury desk I scored for $15...yes...$15!

It still needs some accessorizing so it isn't quite blog-worthy yet, but I just had to show you! And seriously...$15!!!

Do you have any thrifted finds in your home that make your heart skip a beat?

{thrifting score}

The thrifting Gods were most definitely shining down on me this weekend.

That, and my awesome Mother-in-Law, who discovered this treasure for me.

Say hello to my new chair...

Isn't she adorable? Perfectly mid-century and she was $40!

I think my favorite part is the upholstery...a wonderfully nubby gray chenille that looks brand new.

She is the perfect piece to bring the blank wall in our family room together.

For now, I have her paired with pieces we already owned...our  IKEA rug, and an olive green ottoman {not sure if that will stay}...

And I'm planning a frame collage using a variety of frames and a lot of olive green spray paint...

Here is a little mock-up of what I have planned...

I have a white frame that I want to throw into the mix for a break from all the green. I will probably leave a few empty and fill a few with photos or other fun items.

I'm also looking around for fabric to make a pillow for the chair. This one is at the top of my list right now...

And to finish off this cozy corner, I have a wooden tray for the ottoman that I'm going to makeover. It will serve as a great place to sit a drink and a magazine.

So what do you think?

Not too shabby for $40, right?
