{deep breaths}

Things I'm looking forward to this weekend...

deep breaths.

covering a goodwill find with olive spray paint.

enjoying my husband's sautéed brussels sprouts.

fleece pj's against my skin.

truly being with my boys with no agenda or plans.

waking up two days in a row to my natural alarm clock.

buying some fancy yogurt.

and maybe trying almond milk in my coffee.

adding spring touches to our entryway.

more deep breaths.

starting some new doodles.

reading.

pampering myself with a mud mask.

exhaling the pressures of the week.

What are you most looking forward to?

{hello friday}

Thank goodness it is Friday, am I right?!

This week has just dragged. Has it for you too? I think it is partly because I'm so looking forward to the weekend. Fall weather is here and tomorrow there is a big festival in our town with handmade vendors, food and activities for the boys.

My definition of a perfect fall Saturday.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

{butter knife cuts and weekend adventures}

My weekend involved two things that I thought could never possibly happen.

First, I cut my thumb with a butter knife.

Yes, with a BUTTER knife.

Apparently IKEA's butter knives are not as safe as I thought they were. So if you are an IKEA shopper, and in the market for new silverware, proceed with caution.

Particularly with this set, which are what we own. Cute, but apparently lethal...

Second of all, I caught Landon doing something you see other kids doing and think, "No way would my child ever do that. He is precious and perfect and not disgusting."

But he did it.

He was eating his own snot.

*GAG*

In addition to telling him every chance we can get that no one EVER, EVER should eat their own snot, I'm also just trying to convince myself that he is a curious 4-year-old and that's what curious 4-year-olds do.

Right? Please tell me I'm right.

SO.GROSS.

Thank goodness he's so cute...

And then there's this boy would can insert the word "poop" into any conversation...

Again, thank goodness for the cuteness.

Aside from butter knife cuts and snot taste-testing, we also had a really fun weekend. On Saturday we took the boys on a little in-town outing. Our first stop was the library for some books, then to the local bakery for HUGE cookies and finally we stopped at our really fun local toy shop for some browsing and playing with their train table.

As a side note...the boys have their own train table which they never play with, but for some reason the train table at the toy store is like the best.toy.ever. Go figure.

And Ben got like 10 compliments on his hat. That boy knows how to work a fedora. :)

Yesterday I was in heaven with a few hours to myself to work on my February Instagram album. It took me longer than last month, but I completed the whole thing and I can't wait to share it with you! Here is a little sneak peek from my Instagram feed yesterday...

I was feeling very overloaded and overwhelmed this weekend, so yesterday I took an almost complete break from social media. I only picked up my phone a few times and that is a big deal for me. I even started reading a book, which is also a big deal for me. It has been awhile since I picked up reading material that wasn't a magazine or Dr. Seuss. This is what I'm reading and I already love it after only a few pages...

Have you read it? Thoughts?

How was your weekend?

{broken glass and salsa, anyone?}

If our weekend could be defined in one word, "mess" would about cover it.

It all started off innocently enough with a game of "hit the oversized balloon around the family room" with the boys on Friday evening. We have a ceiling fan in there, and after the balloon hit it a few times, I warned the boys to avoid it.

And then what does Ben do two seconds later?

Hit the balloon directly at the fan. Yep.

It knocked the light cord up into one of the glass shades and shattered it. Fun times.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. But there were two little boys in time out for awhile.

Then, later that evening, my hubby was preparing a yummy bowl of queso dip. For some reason, he felt the need to shake up the bottle of salsa, from which he had already removed the lid. {this is a TOTAL Mandy move, by the way}

His shirt, and our entire kitchen floor, looked like a massacre had happened between a bunch of tomatoes, onions and peppers.

I wish I had taken a photo.

But since I didn't, let's pretend this is him and not some college frat guy...and add a lot of salsa to his shirt...

It was gruesome. And smelly. But praise the Lord he had enough salsa left in the jar to make his queso...after going through an entire roll of paper towels and a mopping session.

Fast forward to Saturday when we took a fun family trip out of town to Target and stopped into Marshall's afterward. Fun, right?

I spotted an adorable white owl vase that was $6...

So, of course, it went into my cart.

Until the little stinker decided to fly the coop {thanks for the funny analogy Meagan}, and slipped through the leg opening in the front of the cart. I was totally caught off guard by the loud shattering noise, and at first looked around to see what poor soul had dropped something.

Then I looked at my feet, saw thousands of white ceramic owl pieces, and realized it was ME.

Whaaa whaaaa whaaaaa

And it didn't help my embarrassment when two old enough to know better men laughed ridiculously loudly at me from across the store. I mean really, guys?! Where was their mother?

I have to add that the Marshall's sales associate that helped me clean it up was SO nice though. She even searched the store for replacement for me, but it was the only one. *sigh*

So that was our messy weekend in a nutshell. Or, if you will, a broken glass and ceramic nutshell filled with salsa. At least we made it through without breaking a mirror!
